A Not-So-New Year’s Resolution
Tuesday, 26 January 2010 -- 5:30 pmI’ve decided that I should really try to post more often to my blog this year (inspired partly by Shane). Once again I find that when we talk to friends/family outside of Norway, there are some things we keep repeating, and I have gotten so out of the blogging habit that it doesn’t even register that, “Hey! I should write a post about that!”
I’ve also been thinking of spinning up a separate travel blog, because there are so many travel-related things I wish I had time to write about, but I’m worried about boring people with small logistical details and excessive trip recaps. But at the same time, I know it would be useful to a few fellow travelers out there in the internet realm. Especially on the travel forums I frequent. We’ll see what happens with that.
But in the meantime, I’m going to make a minimal effort to increase my post frequency slightly. I’m setting the bar nice and low – two posts/week, so that I’m not completely dooming myself to failure. Again, we’ll see how that goes!

I am all for more posting!
I thought it was pretty hard at first, but (like you said) you mostly just need to get into the mode of making posts. Sometimes I won’t have anything to post, so I’ll start thinking, “Man, I have nothing to talk about, how am I going to make this post?” Usually right after that I think of so many things I could post, that I actually have to save some of them. Now I make notes on paper and start saved posts just to remember things I want to post.
Another thing I’ve learned is that people are just going to skip the posts they aren’t interested in anyway. So it’s actually less boring to put 5 posts out there and let the people who aren’t that interested skip one or two, then only put only 1 post out there that some people may or may not be interested in.
Anyway, I like hearing what you’re up to and I’ll take whatever posts I can get.

I have also got out of the habit of posting frequently, Meg, and am trying to do more writing. Let’s see how we both fare in our resolutions!
I would love it if you wrote more about your travels, including “boring” details. Your post about your trip through India was excellent—especially enjoyed the fantastic photos—and has inspired me to plan my own journey there. Not sure when but it’s now on my travel agenda. Thanks!
