Snow Therapy
Wednesday, 21 November 2007 -- 3:15 pmThis has been a brutal few weeks. With our release schedule nearing its end and our Canary Islands cruise coming up, I have a lot of work that I need to get done before we leave. I’ve been working too long and too hard, and I’ve managed to make myself pretty sick. It’s just a cold – nothing that a quite relaxing day at home, under a blanket by the fire, watching mindless TV, wouldn’t fix. Unfortunately, quiet and relaxing are luxuries I do not have right now. So I’m huddled in front of two giant computer monitors with a cup of steaming orange herbal tea, a pile of clementines from the grocery next door, and a bottle of echinacea. None of that is helping.
However, I did find something that made me feel astonishingly better this morning! Around 11:30 it started to snow. Really snow! It’s been flurrying lately with little misty snow/rain hybrid drops falling quickly to the ground before disappearing into the damp pavement. But this was real snow. Big lumbering Norway-sized flakes that floated down out of the atmosphere in that patient, aimlessly wandering way that good snowflakes have. And something about it was more soothing than a fire and a blanket and hours of daytime television.
Sadly, the big flakes also disappeared into the damp pavement, since the ground is still a bit too warm to support a light dusting of snow. And the shower didn’t last long. And now I’m back to being stiff and sore and stressed.
But at least my program code is compiling and running now, which is an even bigger relief, because it means I could potentially work from home tomorrow. Under a blanket, by the fire, and with some mindless daytime television running in the background.

Hi Meg,
It actually snowed here in Stavanger on Sunday too! It is sticking to the ground as well. It is really pretty (and cold).
Hope your feeling better too!
